Our story

Koehn Painting Co. LLC was founded in 1985 by Leroy & Susan Koehn. As proud, long time Newton, KS residents, both got their start in business by owning and managing several rental properties in Newton. It was while managing and maintaining these properties that Leroy developed his passion for the painting industry. In the summer of 1984 while painting the exterior of his own home, a local businessman driving by stopped and asked Leroy if he would be interested in giving him a price to paint the exterior of his small office building. Painting that one small office building turned into a steady stream of referrals that eventually lead to what is today known as Koehn Painting Co., or KPC for short. Over the next decade, the company continued to grow as Leroy added more painters and in 1994, KPC purchased their current office and shop space at 204 W. 6th, Newton, KS. In 1995, KPC landed it's first large commercial project, which was the painting of the Newton Outlet Mall south of Newton. The painting of the over 40 tenant spaces and entire exterior of that mall helped launch the company into the commercial and industrial world. Over the next 20 years, the commercial and industrial painting grew so large within the company that in 2018, K5 Painting, a division of KPC, was born to ensure you, our commercial and industrial customers, the very best service possible.
